Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

Disclaimer: This is NOT a diary because diaries are for sissies. It’s a journal, and Greg’s mom is making him do it.
Greg Heffley was created on a web comic in May 2004, and in April 2007 Jeff Kinney brought Greg’s middle school trials and tribulations to print in Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Kinney’s “novel in cartoons” is hilarious; I laughed-out-loud throughout the entire book.
Chronicling the misadventures of 6th grade, Greg’s journal sketches are sure to keep readers in stitches. From the disastrous school play to the wrestling unit in gym class, kids and former kids alike are sure to relate to Greg’s plight. Central to the plot is Greg’s attempts to gain popularity. When his efforts backfire and best friend Rowley begins to make new friends, Greg finds himself relegated to sleepovers with the weirdest kid in school. Will Greg be able to win Rowley back? Will he ever build the world’s biggest snowman? Will he catch the Cheese Touch? Zoo-Wee Mama, middle school is tough!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, and has been on the New York Times Children’s Best Sellers List for 18 weeks, claiming the top spot for chapter books the week of September 2. Patrons can request this book through Nioga.
Meanwhile, I am eagerly awaiting the sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodick Rules, due out January 15, 2008! To learn more about Diary of a Wimpy Kid and its author visit www.wimpykid.com.
