A “Magical” evening at the Library

By Ronald W. Shaw, Executive Director

The Harry Potter Party was a smashing success! Not even Mother Nature could dampen the spirits of our partygoers. As the rain came down kids were screaming in excitement during the trivia contest as the rain was steady enough to cause the ink to disappear on the answers- right in front of their eyes.

It was better than Halloween as the kids (and some of their parents) came dressed as their favorite character. The three judges- Eva Nicklas from the Lewiston Arts Council, Library Page Maria Taczak, and I had a very difficult time choosing the winners.

The Children’s Room staff did an incredible job. What people seemed to appreciate the most was the organization and differentiation between the choices that they had as well as the attention to details, like the “Platform 9″ signs that Library Page Maria Taczak made for the event. Library Clerk Michelle Kratts wove a spell over everyone in the Potions class with the way she talked and taught the potions. As always, Miss Lorraine set the tone for the evening with her level of energy and her enthusiasm spread to everyone in attendance. In fact, the magic spread throughout the Village as Professor McGonagall left here and went to the Blue Monday at the gazebo announced as she arrived as “…straight from Hogwarts.”

It was amazing how so many people stayed in spite of the rain and how everything we had set up (which was considerable) disappeared back into the building so quickly with everyone helping. The volunteers were amazing and we appreciate their help so much. We would like to thank them all, especially our face painting magician Sarah Waechter.

  1. I had a lot of fun. I hop we can have a party for another book soon. Thank you Miss Michelle.

  2. The Harry Potter Party was a magical, smashing success! We had an enchanted evening, enjoying the activities and truly appreciating the thought that went into each event. There was obviously great attention to detail, and a love for both Harry Potter and for the children who came to celebrate him. Our “Hermione” was awarded second place in the costume contest–she is still beaming! Thank you for hosting such a wonderful event.
