  1. Why are there no classical CD acquisitions? Artpark is the BPO’s summer home, so I guess one could say that there is some community value in making classical music available more widely, particularly in an institution which serves as a repository of culture. It might even be a nice idea to make a special effort to draw attention to the world of classical music during the BPO season — through special exhibits of symphonic and classical material, lectures, discussions, whatever. Where else are young people to learn to value something important in their own community that is largely ignored by mainstream consumer culture?

  2. Unfortunately due to an extremely limited budget, we tend to limit our purchases to the mainstream items that will circulate. What classical music we do have does not get checked out too often. The beauty of being part of a library system is that you may use your library card at other libraries, where their collection of classical music may be larger. You may also request items from other Nioga libraries and have them sent to the Lewiston Public Library which would save you a trip.

Your suggestion regarding programs built around the BPO is interesting. We have had the Niagara Frontier Fiddle Club as part of our summer reading program and will be having a performance by members of the Music School of Niagara on August 6th.

It is one of our goals to provide new programming to our community so we will look into the feasibility of offering events of this nature
