My Favorite Book Ever!
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Reviewed by Sarah J. Watson, Technical Services Librarian
A couple of years ago a colleague of mine lent me an audio version The Time Traveler’s Wife. She told me that it was a Today Show Book Club book a couple of years ago and that I should read it. So I gave it a try. Well, on my nice long commute to work every day I started to listen to this delightful, heart-wrenching tale of Henry and Claire. Henry, a librarian (yeah!) and Claire, an aspiring artist, make an unlikely couple as they meet when Henry is 36 and Claire 6. How is this possible you ask? Well, Henry has a time-traveling disorder, a new kind of genetic disorder that pops him in and out of time. Eventually they meet up in real time when they’re both of age and fall madly in love.
Please do not let the time-traveling aspect dissuade you as this is by no means a fantasy or science fiction novel. At its core, this novel is a love story, and might I say one of the best I’ve ever read. What is so wonderful about the audio book is that the two main characters points a view are told by two of the best audio book readers ever. I found myself taking the long way to work so that I could stay in my car to hear their voices telling this incredible story. If you like this book, feel free to leave a comment!
You may request this from NIOGAas an audio book, which I highly recommend (make sure to get the unabridged version) or in book format.
